Reliance Jio is taking aim at one of the biggest barriers in personal computing right now: the cost of upgrading for AI. Instead of asking users to buy a brand-new laptop or desktop, the company is betting it can make older machines feel modern again through a low-cost, cloud-powered PC service.
The pitch is simple but ambitious. For as little as about $11 for two months, Jio reportedly wants to help users access an AI-ready PC experience on aging computers that may otherwise struggle with newer software, heavier workloads, and the rising demand for artificial intelligence tools.
Jio AI-ready PC service: what is the idea?
The concept appears to center on using cloud computing to do the heavy lifting. Rather than relying entirely on the hardware inside an old PC, Jio’s system could shift processing to remote servers, allowing users to access a more capable virtual computer experience over the internet.
That could be especially useful in a market like India, where millions of households, students, and small businesses still use older desktops and laptops. Many of those machines are perfectly usable for browsing, writing, spreadsheets, and video calls, but they may not be powerful enough for AI tools, advanced productivity apps, or newer operating environments.
Why Jio wants to turn old computers into AI PCs

What this means for the future of AI PCs
Jio’s plan points to a broader shift in tech: not every AI device has to be a premium device. Some of the most important AI products may be subscription-based, cloud-powered, and designed for people using ordinary hardware.
